The Discoverer scout are usually in grades 4 and 5 of the school. At this age, there is a strong trend towards greater autonomy. The Discoverer scout can take care of herself far more than the younger scouts.

Many of the children at this age is no longer a child care (for example, leisure) in the afternoons but look after themselves. They often meet friends or interested in recreational activities on their own and able to take the decisions necessary to solve the practical problems they encounter.

In the discoverer age it may be significant differences between girls and boys, but the scouts get all the space to develop on their own terms.

Many Discoverers are passionate about the world and the Scouts engage themselves in the community together in a concrete way. Discoverers try different roles and are challenged to take place through the adventures and experiences. 10-12 years old
living willingly into the stories and outdoor recreation play a vital role.

Discoverers encounter both older and younger Scouts, and has already tried to have nature as a living room when it's time to become adventurers.
